If your going to make some really rock solid home recordings, then your very first step before ever pressing that big red button should be getting to grips with all the different parts of the studio that all have to be working together to achieve that amazing sound.
The Sound Source
This can be any acoustic instrument, be it your lovely Martin guitar or sexy set of Peal Export drums.
Input Devices
An input device is anything that plugs right into the mixer, mostly it will be things like an electric guitar, bass guitar, microphones and sound modules / controllers for MIDI instruments.
The Mixer
Traditional mixers are used to get all the input devices into the recorder. The Mixer is also used to balance all the tracks producing a nice clean sound for the listener.
Signal Processors
Now for the fun part, signal processors are the effects you add to your mix. Things like compression, delay, reverb and equalisers all come under this category.
Monitors
And so last but not least we come to the monitoring in your home studio which might very well be the most important aspect to consider as these are the speakers that you will listen to all your music through. Make sure you set aside a good amount of cash to invest in a great set of speakers and headphones as this is the only way to get a true representation of the music you are producing.
So that concludes my little rundown of the most important parts of your studio, the stuff in here should give you a brief understanding of what the complete home recording studio looks like.

Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio Isolation Earphones Review È Home … - fi 3 Studio Isolation Earphones last week and have been enjoying them. Key benefits include: clean open sound with good separation of instruments and performers, very detailed yet smooth response in the upper frequencies, controlled, tight bass if not a little muted (though may improve when I figure out how to reliably lodge them in my ear canal, more later), adequate sound isolation from both your environment and the headphone wire itself thanks to over the ear hard, but pliant to fit snuggly over your ear, plastic encased wire stress relief, low listening fatigue and good comfort with the correct sized ear plug (still don’t know if I’ve found mine yet). Another great upgrade to the iPod sound system in my pocket.
