The most basic music mastering equipment would come in the form of a compressor and a limiter. It’s true to say that a professional mastering house spends a great deal of money on all manner of audio gear to give their tracks that radio polished sound. But if your on a budget and can mix well you can get away with the two effects mentioned above.
You would apply the compressor to the mixed down stereo file getting the tracks to a nice level, then the limiter to give volume a boost if needed and to really level the whole thing out.
It would also be a big help if you could get hold of a nice EQ plug-in like t-racks.
