The best miking bass guitar method I have found for home recordings is to run two signals into the recorder.
The first will be your standard amp and microphone set up using a nice base amp and mic positioned wherever you get the best sound in your situation.
The second input will be coming directly from the bass into the sound card as clean as possible to give you space to add some FX processing.
You will the mix these two recordings together which will give you a nice sharp bass sound that will act as the back bone of you song.
