When I’m at trade shows people often come up and ask me is melody in songwriting important, or can you just write songs on paper and expect the get something special?

For me the answer is always the same; if you want to write a great song, melody is all important.

If you think about Beatles songs the chords are not always that ground breaking, but what really sets them apart from the crowd of other wannabe legends is the inspirational and interesting harmonies they seem to produce with ease.

So if you write great lyrics and can’t seem to find and interesting melody work with someone who has the skill.
