Here are just a few of my mastering music fundamentals:
- Listeners perceive louder music to be better music, so you want to use compression and limiting to make your tracks really punch through the speakers.
- All tracks on your album should be a good relative level to each other. You can make acoustic tracks really loud with mastering, but if they are way louder than your heaviest rock songs then all the power of those rocking tracks will be lost.
Make sure you check your mastering on all sort of speaker set ups. Most listeners don’t spend money on nice speakers so make sure your mix still works on a tinny laptop.
