1. Pro tools is all about intricate audio editing and is used is many of the top studios around the world.

2. Logic is a good option if you’re looking for high quality results with a manageable learning curve.

3. Cubase is the granddaddy of recording home recording products and handles Midi very well.

4. Garageband comes totally free with every single Mac currently on the market. It is now becoming a real option for many musicians since Apple purchased Logic and started to mirror its features in Garageband.

5. Audacity is another free option but is a little less slick than Garageband. With a nice sound card it can sound good.
