How much should a home studio cost? The answer to this question is never simple as there are two very distinct schools of thought on the matter.
Half of the home producers out there say you have to spend thousands on a Pro Tools HD system and even more on the best Neumann microphones money can buy. Very often this is more like equipment porn rather than actual need.
The other set of producers are penny wise and scour eBay for a $10 portastudio and a karaoke mic. This is equally as confusing to me.
Personally I think you should buy a PC, a copy of Pro Tools with a nice audio interface and one nice mic to start with. Whatever that cost you is the right price for a home studio.
