When choosing the right home recording softwares for your project studio you can either go down the free open source software route, or stump up the cash for something a little more advanced and costly.
The leader in the free steaks is Audacity, which comes with nearly all of the knobs and dials you would expect in a package costing many hundreds of dollars. You can get Audacity Here
If you have some money to spend I would recommend getting Pro Tools as this is the leading recording software on the planet and can be purchased in conjunction with a sound card coming in at around $400.
