You can really use any computer for home studio projects but there are a few things to consider if you’re a serious music maker and want to have an enjoyable experience.
Anything over about five years old is not going to be able to run a really nice piece of software for audio editing but you can still work with Midi files and an early version of Cubase. (I have a friend who still uses his 15 year old Mac and swears by it!)
If you have some cash to spend buy a Mac pro with at least 4 GB of ram and a copy of Pro Tools.
