Cheap music mastering can be achieved if you keep things quite simple. When I’m making a demo for an album track I’ll open up Audacity or Pro Tools and import the stereo files into the session then create my stereo master track.
For very basic mastering I first add an EQ to the whole track and make the necessary changes in the frequencies.
The next step is to add some subtle compression to make sure that the track is all relatively level.
Finally I use limiter to give the track the right volume to compete with other demos I’m working on.
